On November 22, Justice Hamza Muazu granted Emefiele bail amounting to N300 million, stipulating that he must provide two sureties possessing landed properties in the Maitama District of the Federal Capital Territory.

Emefiele, who was in Kuje Prison on remand when the bail conditions were established, was directed by the judge to stay in prison custody until he fully satisfies all the conditions.

Despite the commencement of the trial on Tuesday, Emefiele was transported to court in a van accompanied by heavily armed security personnel from the Kuje Prison, with the court premises being tightly guarded by armed security agents.

Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), informed our correspondent that Emefiele remains in prison on remand as he has not met the bail conditions.

Likewise, Emefiele’s lawyer, Matthew Burkaa, SAN, acknowledged that his client is still in prison, emphasizing ongoing efforts to fulfill the bail conditions, particularly the challenge of securing two sureties with landed properties in the Maitama District of Abuja.
