Bayo Onanuga Reacts After Maersk Denies $600m Investment In Nigeria....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Bayo Onanuga, President Bola Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, has addressed the recent uproar over the Nigerian government’s announcement of a purported $600 million investment deal with Maersk, a leading shipping company.
Onanuga clarified that there was no formal agreement or deal inked between the Nigerian government and Maersk. The controversy arose following a statement released by the presidency after President Tinubu’s discussion with Robert Maersk Uggla on April 28, which claimed that Maersk had committed to investing $600 million in Nigeria’s seaport industry.
In a now-deleted post, Onanuga had shared the announcement, stating that “Danish shipping company, A.P Moller-Maersk plans $600m investment in Nigeria.” However, this post was removed after Maersk officials refuted having any such agreements with the Nigerian government.
Onanuga, when approached for comment, confirmed that no formal agreement had been reached regarding the investment. He emphasized that there was no signed document or deal, despite discussions about potential investment opportunities. He urged people not to get overly excited about the situation, noting that Maersk’s statement did not explicitly deny the existence of investment discussions.
In conclusion, while talks of investment were indeed underway, there was no concrete agreement reached between the Nigerian government and Maersk.
