Benin Authorities Take Action, Arrest Five Nigeriens Amid Border Tensions....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Five Nigeriens have been apprehended by Benin authorities at the Seme-Kpodji port, accused of fraudulent entry, marking the latest development in the ongoing dispute between the neighboring West African nations.

The arrests, announced on national television, come amidst a backdrop of strained relations, with Benin reopening its border after imposing sanctions on Niger following a coup in July.

However, Niger’s military rulers have yet to reciprocate.

Prosecutors allege that two of the detainees are affiliated with the Niger junta, posing as employees of WAPCO Niger, the Chinese company managing the pipeline.

Investigations are underway, with Niger denouncing the arrests as violations of agreements on crude transport via the Beninese port.

The situation has escalated, with threats of action from Niger’s military leader if the detainees are not released.

Accusations of hosting foreign military bases and destabilization attempts further exacerbate tensions, with the border closure impacting both countries economically.
