The Police Service Commission has greenlit AIG Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar’s ascent to Deputy Inspector General of Police, filling the void left by the retirement of DIG Habu Sani.

AIG Abubakar, previously overseeing Zone 14 Katsina, will now represent the North East Geopolitical Zone in the Police Management Team.

Additionally, the Commission sanctioned the advancement of 122 other senior Police Officers, including 10 Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors General, 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police to substantive Commissioners, and 36 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners.

These decisions were reached at an extraordinary Management Meeting chaired by Dr. Solomon Arase, retired Inspector General of Police, on June 6th, 2024. Dr. Arase urged the promoted officers to adapt to evolving crime dynamics and emphasized the importance of a knowledge-driven police force committed to safeguarding the nation.

Prominent among those elevated to AIGs are Ahmed Ammani, Mohammed Dankwara Adamu, Gumel Mohammed Usaini, Hamzat Adebola Ayinde, and Okuoma Idegwu Basil.

The list of promotions, including those of Deputy Commissioners to Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners, has been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police for implementation.
