Benue Bloodshed: Tinubu Demands Land For Ranch As Lasting Peace Plan Unfolds

President Bola Tinubu, during a stakeholder meeting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, addressed the recent killings allegedly carried out by suspected herdsmen.

He called on the people of Benue and all Nigerians to unite in confronting common threats.

“Provide land for a ranch and we can break free from underdevelopment,” Tinubu urged. “Our national anthem speaks of passing on a banner without stain to the next generation. We are one family—Nigerians under one roof, though in different rooms. Let’s fight our true enemies, not one another. Human life is worth more than that of cattle.”

Over 200 people were reportedly killed in Yelewata, Guma Local Government Area, in a wave of violence linked to suspected herdsmen. Governor Hyacinth Alia attributed the attacks to individuals seeking land ownership.

In response, President Tinubu ordered security agencies to apprehend those responsible for the massacre, which took place last Friday. Speaking directly to the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, during the town hall meeting, Tinubu said, “Christopher… We must stay alert. Let’s find those criminals and bring them to justice.”

Earlier, the President visited victims of the attack who are receiving treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital. He was welcomed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and Governor Alia.
