According to a statement released on Wednesday by the Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Media Office, armed assailants stormed the country home late Tuesday, damaging multiple windows before being repelled by a joint team of security personnel, local vigilantes, and community youths.
The quick intervention reportedly led to the arrest of one suspect, identified as Suberu Jose—a known ritualist from the area—who confessed to his role in the attack, claiming it was his third time targeting the property. Items recovered from him included a cutlass and charms, while other gang members escaped.
Eyewitnesses said an enraged crowd attempted to lynch Jose before he was rescued and handed over to the police.
“This arrest represents the first major breakthrough in what appears to be a series of targeted attacks against the embattled female Senator,” the statement noted, adding that no arrests were made during the April 15 incident.
This renewed attack comes amid rising political tension following the Federal Government’s recent criminal charges against Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. The charges were filed shortly after she accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment—an allegation that led to her six-month suspension from the Senate.
The Media Office urged the public to remain calm and committed to justice, asserting that the Senator’s dedication to truth and her advocacy for constituents must not be silenced by intimidation or violence.
The incident was confirmed by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, who stated:
“Yes, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s family residence in Ihima was attacked on Tuesday. One suspect was arrested and is cooperating with police investigations.”
