The governor arrived at the secretariat at approximately 10:35 am to inspect ongoing renovations, including the installation of new lighting. However, he found only a few workers present. Security personnel promptly closed the gates, barring late-arriving staff from entering the premises.
While touring various ministries, Governor Alia expressed disappointment upon discovering that several commissioners and senior officials were absent from their posts.
Addressing the locked-out workers at the gate, the governor voiced his frustration over what he described as a lack of commitment to their duties.
“With this attitude, you are creating a vicious cycle for your families. You cannot prosper because you are cheats, and the consequences of your actions will catch up with you,” he stated.
He added, “The work I do is not for me but for those who don’t even know I’m the governor and those who might see me and not recognise me. I appeal to you because I can easily obtain your names and terminate your appointments; I have that authority. I’m speaking to you as a priest, not just as a governor, to warn you about the dangers of your actions.”
Concluding his remarks, he reminded the workers of their collective responsibility to the government and the people they serve. “Government isn’t about me; it’s about all of you. Every government has rules, just like every home. I’m not frustrated, but I don’t want you to face doom. Think of what you can do, not just for yourselves but for the people relying on you.”
