Benue Man Dies In Tragic Electrocution Accident

Several individuals gathered along the major highway in Otukpo, Benue State, drawn by the sight of a young man named Inalegwu Major whose lifeless body hung from a transformer. The incident unfolded when the suspect allegedly attempted to vandalize a transformer belonging to the Jos Electricity Distribution Company near the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) office in Otukpo.

Eyewitnesses speculated that the suspect might have been fatally electrocuted during his attempt to tamper with the transformer. One witness, known only as Sunny, reported that the discovery was made around 5:00 am on Saturday by a passerby who raised an alarm.

According to Sunny, “At around 5 am this morning (Saturday), a passerby alerted everyone about the body hanging on the transformer, which attracted a crowd eager to see the suspect.”

A resident from the area disclosed that the victim, known for previous acts of cable theft, had managed to remove some parts of the cables before the power was restored.

Confirming the incident, Dr. Adakole Elijah, the Head of Corporate Communication for JED company, expressed astonishment at the audacity of the victim to climb the transformer despite the security measures in place. “The transformer is properly secured on a pole, so it’s beyond belief that someone would attempt such a climb,” he stated. “Clearly, it was intentional, a blatant case of vandalism. It appears he had malicious intentions, and tragically, he has paid with his life.”

Efforts to reach Police Public Relations Officer Catherine Anene for comment were unsuccessful as calls to her phone went unanswered.
