Benue Under Siege!’ – APC Chieftain Demands Immediate Action From Governor Alia
A prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, Julius Inedu, has raised serious concerns over the increasing wave of killings and the deteriorating security situation in the state.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an open letter to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Inedu criticized the governor’s growing detachment from the harsh realities confronting the people of Benue. He accused Alia and his administration of neglecting their fundamental duties, choosing instead to engage in internal party disputes and leadership struggles.
Inedu highlighted that communities across the state are under constant threat due to intensifying farmer-herder clashes, banditry, and communal violence. He noted that thousands of families have been forced from their homes and are now living in overcrowded, poorly maintained IDP camps.
Despite the increase in federal allocations following the removal of fuel subsidies, Inedu expressed disappointment that there has been little to no visible improvement in security or social welfare programs.
He lamented,
“Benue continues to bleed. From the north to the south, our communities are under siege. The violence hasn’t just continued—it’s escalated. Families are devastated, with many losing everything, including loved ones, homes, and their sense of safety.”
“This administration appears disconnected from the real struggles of the people. Citizens are less concerned about internal APC politics and more concerned about the safety of their lives and communities.”
In addition to the security crisis, Inedu slammed the governor over the state’s growing unemployment rate, revealing that no significant recruitment has occurred within the state’s civil service since 2014. He warned that the expanding population of jobless youth is becoming a “ticking time bomb,” vulnerable to criminal activities and social unrest.
He urged Governor Alia to channel the increased federal revenue into job creation, youth empowerment, and the filling of critical positions in government institutions.
Inedu concluded by warning that the widespread hope and excitement that greeted Alia’s 2023 election victory is rapidly fading, and the once-popular “Yes Father” slogan risks becoming nothing more than a forgotten campaign phrase if meaningful change does not follow.
