Betrayal Of Trust! – CUPP Slams Oborevwori, Okowa Over ‘Shameful’ Defection To APC

Peter Ameh, National Secretary of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), has condemned the recent wave of defections from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it disgraceful and a betrayal of democratic values.

Reacting to the defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and other key PDP figures, Ameh expressed dismay over what he described as a growing disregard for the sanctity of the people’s mandate.

In an interview with Punch, Ameh asserted that Nigerians are witnessing a shameful trend where political leaders now trade public trust for personal gain.

“It’s a disgrace,” he said. “This day belongs to mandate manipulators, oppressors, and those undermining democracy. The fact that leaders no longer believe in protecting the people’s mandate at all costs is truly troubling.”

He further alleged that some of these defections are motivated by attempts to evade anti-corruption probes or to bargain for political favors such as second-term tickets.

Highlighting the role of CUPP going forward, Ameh assured that a united opposition will emerge stronger by 2027.

“We are building a powerful coalition of like-minded patriots. By 2027, there will be a national consensus—an overwhelming wave that will sweep away the APC, President Tinubu, and these opportunistic defectors,” he stated.
