Betrayal Or Blunder? PDP Chieftain Slams Defection To ADC As ‘Unfortunate
The National Vice Chairman (South-West) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kamorudeen Ajisafe, has voiced his dismay over the recent defections from the party to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling the move “unfortunate” and poorly considered.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a conversation with The Guardian following the endorsement of ADC as a new opposition coalition platform by several prominent PDP figures ahead of the 2027 elections, Ajisafe reaffirmed that the PDP remains a formidable and respected political force. He cautioned against premature political alliances that may not stand the test of time.
Addressing concerns over the party’s continued recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as its National Secretary, Ajisafe revealed that the decision was influenced by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) stance during a recent meeting with PDP leaders.
“INEC requested a new national secretary but gave the impression that it might only acknowledge Anyanwu, as his name is still listed on their website,” Ajisafe said.
He added that although the party considered returning to court for further interpretation of the Supreme Court ruling on the matter, the lack of time compelled them to stick with Anyanwu.
“We thought of seeking legal clarification, but how quickly would the case be resolved? Time is not on our side, so we had little choice,” he explained.
Ajisafe acknowledged internal discontent over Anyanwu’s continued role, especially amid allegations of his close ties with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
“Many believe Wike is using Anyanwu to sow discord in the PDP. But honestly, defecting to ADC or another party is not the right solution,” he stated.
Despite the party’s internal hurdles, Ajisafe remained confident in the PDP’s electoral prospects. When asked about the possible impact of defections on the 2026 Osun governorship race and the 2027 elections in Oyo State, he was resolute.
“To be candid, the internal dynamics at the national level won’t affect Governor Seyi Makinde’s ability to choose his successor in Oyo or hinder Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid in Osun. Those victories are practically guaranteed,” Ajisafe asserted.
