Although the Anambra State government has not made any official pronouncement on the sit-at-home order, the state police command announced that an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Operations Department would lead the squad.
Unofficially, heads of various departments in the state secretariat have warned workers about the consequences of being absent from work under the pretext of observing Biafra Day.
To ensure the state’s security, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, has coordinated with the Joint Security Force, which includes the Army, Navy, Civil Defense, and other agencies, to address any security concerns, particularly those enforcing the illegal sit-at-home order.
The CP specifically directed the squad to ensure the safety of students currently sitting for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which begins on May 30, 2024, nationwide.
According to the CP, the special squad was established to protect schools, students, and institutional infrastructure.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the squad members have been equipped with relevant assets and advanced training to effectively respond to security challenges facing educational institutions.
“The personnel have been dispatched and tasked to intensify robust patrols around schools and vulnerable institutions across the state,” Ikenga said.
Wishing the exam candidates success, the PPRO advised them to behave well and urged them to report any security-related incidents to the authorities
