Big Names Battle For Glory As Premier League Reveals September Award Shortlist

The Premier League has unveiled the nominees for its September 2026 Player and Manager of the Month awards, with eight players and three managers making the shortlist after only three league fixtures during the month.

The shortened September schedule, caused by an extended international break, allowed the Premier League to announce the nominees earlier than usual. August award winners João Pedro of Chelsea and Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović are not among the September contenders.

Hull City forward Mohamed Belloumi earned his place on the player shortlist after making a significant contribution to his team’s performances. He scored twice within six minutes during Hull City’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea before providing his second assist of the season in the defeat to Newcastle United.

Leeds United defender Jayden Bogle was also recognised following his impressive performances during the month. He scored and helped his side keep a clean sheet in Leeds United’s 4-1 victory over Newcastle United as the club continued its unbeaten start.

Brighton & Hove Albion have two representatives on the shortlist, with Pascal Groß and Charalampos Kostoulas both receiving nominations. Groß recorded two goals and three assists, while Kostoulas also played an important role in Brighton’s strong run during September.

Liverpool also have two nominees, with striker Alexander Isak and defender Jérémy Jacquet earning recognition. Isak scored three goals in three matches, while Jacquet helped the Reds maintain three consecutive clean sheets.

Brentford forward Kevin Schade and Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo complete the eight-player shortlist. Schade scored twice against Bournemouth and impressed during Brentford’s 3-0 victory over Chelsea, while Semenyo contributed two goals and two assists for Manchester City.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the Manager of the Month shortlist features Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler, Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola and Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca.

Hürzeler guided Brighton to convincing victories over Arsenal and Coventry City, including a 3-0 triumph against Arsenal and a 5-0 win over Coventry. Iraola received his first nomination since taking charge of Liverpool after leading the club to three consecutive clean sheets during September.

Maresca is also in contention after Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the campaign. City became the only Premier League side to win their opening five matches, with Maresca becoming the sixth manager to achieve the feat with a club.

The winners of the September Player and Manager of the Month awards will be determined through voting on the Premier League’s official website, with the final results expected after the voting process concludes.
