Moses Simon Set For Historic Super Eagles Milestone As NFF Plans Special Honour
African champions since his international debut in March 2015. The Paris FC winger began his Super Eagles career against Uganda, coming on as a substitute for Anthony Ujah in the second half.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the 31-year-old has established himself as an experienced member of the national team over the past decade, featuring in 64 competitive matches and 35 international friendlies. He has also represented Nigeria 23 times at the Africa Cup of Nations finals and made 22 appearances in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
The NFF’s planned recognition will mark a significant milestone in Simon’s international career if he features against Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
NFF Acting General Secretary, Emmanuel Ikpeme, described Simon as a dedicated and committed player who has consistently demonstrated his passion for the national team. He praised the winger’s contribution to Nigerian football and expressed the federation’s best wishes for more appearances with the Super Eagles.
Simon’s 100th appearance would place him among the select group of Nigerian players to have reached the century mark at senior international level.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez has warned that Madagascar could provide a difficult challenge in the opening AFCON qualifying fixture. The Rangers defender said Nigeria should be prepared to match the Barea’s energy, resilience and intensity throughout the encounter.
Fernandez expects Madagascar to approach the game with determination and believes the Super Eagles will need to maintain their quality while matching their opponents’ physical and tactical commitment.
Nigeria have faced Madagascar five times in senior men’s international football, recording three victories, one defeat and one draw.
Following Friday’s encounter in Uyo, the Super Eagles will travel to face Guinea-Bissau in their second 2027 AFCON qualifying fixture on Tuesday.
