Big Twist In 2027: Atiku Says Younger Candidate Could End His Presidential Ambition For Same Reason’s

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has stated that he would step aside from the 2027 presidential race if a younger aspirant secures the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket ahead of him.

The former presidential candidate disclosed this during an interview with the BBC, noting that his current priority is to help strengthen the ADC into a formidable political force with national and grassroots structures.

Atiku explained that should a younger candidate emerge victorious in the party’s primaries, he would not oppose the outcome but rather offer his full support and mentorship. He emphasized that he has not reached a final decision on whether to contest in 2027 but remains committed to building the ADC ahead of the elections.

Speaking on his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of planting loyalists within the opposition to create divisions. He said this interference frustrated genuine reconciliation efforts, leaving him with no alternative but to join the ADC.

According to him, the ADC has now completed its national leadership structure and is focused on strengthening its presence at the state and local government levels before the 2027 polls. Atiku further highlighted that, unlike the PDP where his counsel was often disregarded, the ADC provides greater opportunities for youth and women to actively participate in leadership.
