Fufeyin made the controversial statement during a sermon in January 2022, asserting that first fruit offerings bring both miraculous blessings and forgiveness. Although the sermon dates back over two years, the resurfaced clip recently stirred outrage online, drawing backlash from concerned Nigerians.

In response, CAN dismissed the claim as heretical and misleading. The association’s National Director for National Issues and Social Welfare, Abimbola Ayuba, issued a statement denouncing the teaching as “heresy and false doctrine,” cautioning the public against being deceived by preachers with questionable theological backgrounds.

“God is not fraudulent,” Ayuba emphasized. “He doesn’t pardon sin in exchange for offerings. He owns all things and doesn’t strike deals with sinners. CAN recognizes only accredited ministers within its five blocs, who uphold sound biblical teachings.”

CAN further warned that such teachings are manipulative and exploitative, taking advantage of unsuspecting Nigerians for financial gain.

Echoing the rebuke, Lagos State CAN Chairman, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, dismissed the message as entirely unbiblical. He challenged Prophet Fufeyin to cite scriptural support for his assertion and warned that the doctrine could encourage people to persist in sin, falsely believing their annual offering would automatically absolve them.

“He is preaching out of context,” Adegbite said. “This is the kind of deception the Bible warned about in the last days — false teachers claiming to speak for God without divine calling.”
