The operation, carried out along the Kampani Zurak–Sabon Gari road, was part of the ongoing Operation LAFIYAN JAMA’A, which is focused on eliminating criminal threats across Plateau and neighboring regions.
In a statement released Wednesday in Jos, Major Samson Zhakom, the Media Information Officer for OPSH, revealed that troops acted on credible intelligence regarding a recent abduction and set up an ambush along a known bandit route.
“During the operation, our troops intercepted the kidnappers transporting their victim on a motorcycle. A brief exchange of gunfire followed, resulting in the neutralization of one bandit, while others escaped into the bush,” Zhakom stated.
The troops safely rescued the victim, identified as 45-year-old Mr. Adamu Nuhu, who is now receiving necessary medical attention and support.
Items recovered from the scene include a fabricated pistol, a magazine, four rounds of 9mm ammunition, a Boxer motorcycle, and personal belongings left behind by the fleeing assailants.
Zhakom noted that the recovered arms and equipment are now in military custody for further investigation.
He added that follow-up operations are ongoing in the area to track down and apprehend the remaining members of the criminal gang. The OPSH spokesperson also reassured residents of the military’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and restoring peace in the state.
