During his address to the nation titled “My Thoughts on The State of Our Country in the Last 25 Years: A Time to Chart A New Direction,” George emphasized the importance of PDP adhering to its power rotation tradition between the North and South to secure victory in 2027.
George stressed the sacrosanct nature of power rotation, citing the party’s defeat in 2023 as a consequence of deviating from this principle. He highlighted that the inclusion of power rotation in the party’s constitution was essential to prevent a resurgence of military rule.
The former PDP official elaborated on the party’s founding principles, which aimed to unify the country’s various ethnic groups and ensure equitable distribution of power among the six geopolitical zones.
George underscored the significance of Section 7 subsection 3C of the party’s constitution, which mandates adherence to zoning and rotation for both party and elective positions concurrently.
He reflected on the historical tensions between majority and minority tribes since Nigeria’s independence, attributing coups and counter-coups to this imbalance in power distribution.
George reiterated the agreement among the party’s founding fathers to alternate leadership positions between the northern and southern zones every eight years to promote fairness and unity.
He cautioned against deviating from these principles, citing the internal divisions that arose within the PDP when the tradition of power rotation was compromised.
George’s remarks underscore the importance of upholding party principles and traditions as the PDP navigates its political strategy for future elections.
