The distressing incident occurred on Friday, April 26, 2024. The General Manager of Victoria Garden City Estate alerted the police, reporting that Mbelu, aged 42, was discovered unconscious in his ash-colored C300 4Matic car with the ignition running and the windows closed in the VGC vicinity around 10 am on Friday.

Upon receiving the report, police detectives swiftly responded, and Mbelu was immediately transported to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, where his demise was sadly confirmed. His body was subsequently transferred to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy. The state police have commenced a preliminary investigation and promised to provide updates as the inquiry progresses.

In another unfortunate incident, a man identified as Azeez reportedly drowned in the Lagos lagoon while attempting to escape arrest. Azeez allegedly jumped into the lagoon to evade capture after being accused of stealing multiple bags of cement.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, verified the incident, expressing the shock it has caused in the local community. The report was initially received by the Ikoyi Police Division from the director of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos Central, around 12:20 pm on Friday.

According to reports, the distress call concerning the incident at the Lekki/Ikoyi Link Bridge was received at approximately 10:45 am that day. Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders encountered a sizable crowd gathered by the waterside, observing Azeez’s lifeless body.

Paramedics from Pre Hospital Care, Lagos, confirmed Azeez’s demise. SP Hundeyin explained that Azeez was being pursued by a cement seller named Elijah Amos when he made the fateful decision to leap into the lagoon.

“It was discovered that Elijah Amos, who sold the cement, was chasing the deceased because he was alleged to have stolen some bags of cement,” Hundeyin stated.

The police visited the scene, and Azeez’s body was subsequently transported to the Mainland General Hospital Mortuary in Yaba, where an autopsy will be conducted to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death.
