Umahi emphasized the urgency by giving the ministry a seven-day ultimatum to conduct a thorough audit of ongoing projects. This audit aims to assess the progress made, as well as evaluate the capabilities of the contractors in terms of personnel and equipment.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Uchenna Orji, Umahi accused the construction firms of delaying tactics. He expressed bewilderment at the contractors’ failure to sign the reviewed contract documents despite participating in the process of re-scoping and revising the contract specifications.

The minister recounted efforts to rationalize the project, highlighting the decision to adjust specifications based on the practicalities observed during inspections. Umahi underscored the importance of ensuring that contractors possess the necessary resources and expertise to execute their tasks effectively.

Moving forward, Umahi stated unequivocally that contractors must adhere to stipulated rates and timelines when signing contracts. He made it clear that failure to comply with the directive would result in job forfeiture without room for further negotiation.

The minister’s decisive stance reflects the government’s commitment to project accountability and efficiency. With the ultimatum issued, contractors face a critical choice between meeting their obligations or risking the termination of their contracts.
