Boko Haram Militants Overrun Military Outpost In Nigeria, Bandits Ambush Local Leader In Katsina

Suspected insurgents believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram reportedly overran a military base in Allawa town, located in the Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. The attack occurred around 1:30 am, with armed assailants arriving on motorcycles in large numbers, estimated to be around 200. This incursion followed a recent clash where the military allegedly neutralized approximately fifty insurgents in the same area.

Eyewitnesses recounted a fierce confrontation between the insurgents and military forces, resulting in casualties, although the exact figures remain unconfirmed due to the timing of the attack. The insurgents reportedly looted cash, food items, and other valuables from residents before fleeing the area. Furthermore, the military base in the vicinity was reportedly abandoned by deployed personnel.

Simultaneously, bandits launched an attack on the palace of the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Mohammed Bunu, in Zamfara State. However, security agents intervened, preventing the emir’s abduction by swiftly transporting him to the state capital, Gusau. This incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in the region, as both terrorist groups and criminal elements continue to operate with impunity.

The attacks have triggered a mass exodus of residents from Allawa town and surrounding areas, including Pandogari, Kukoki, and Bassa, as locals seek safety in neighboring regions. This unsettling development follows a previous ambush by suspected Boko Haram members that resulted in the tragic deaths of two military officers and four soldiers in Karaga, also located in the Shiroro Local Government Area.
