This recent attack highlights the ongoing threat posed by the terrorist group, despite efforts to secure vulnerable communities. Sources close to the situation informed Vanguard that the victims were among a larger group abducted during the raid.
Additionally, Jubril Zarana, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) known for his active role in combating such attacks, was killed during the confrontation.
A reliable source stated, “We sadly report the abduction of about 15 individuals, including children, women, and the elderly, by Boko Haram terrorists in Ngoshe, Gwoza LGA. The attack also led to the death of CJTF member Jubril Zarana and five other civilians. The terrorists ambushed the farmers while they were working in their fields.
“Security agents, including the Army and CJTF, made commendable efforts to protect the community but were unable to prevent the assault. Jubril Dada Zarana was killed defending his people, while others were taken alive.
“After abducting the victims, the terrorists brutally slaughtered five individuals, including Isa Musa Moh’d Diyara, Doglas, Salawuddin Suleman Dauda Lawan, Maryam Gwambran, Matan Kaka Mobil Aga, and Baba Amos. The Boko Haram group later released three women captives who reported that additional victims, such as Anna Andrew Gadzawaga, Hauwa Braga, and two unidentified young boys, were still held hostage.
“Other missing individuals include Babawo Kanin Shagari, Ummi Trabos, and Babson Yaron Teacher, among others. We urge the concerned citizens of Gwoza to keep our people in their prayers as they navigate this desperate situation.
“While today is meant to celebrate freedom, human rights, progress, and unity, for our people, it is a day marked by sorrow, despair, and helplessness. They are suffering greatly due to a lack of essential resources but choose to remain in their homeland out of love for it. Sadly, neither the government nor NGOs are providing food supplies, and the little farming they manage to do comes with significant risks to their lives as they seek to harvest what they have planted.
