Shettima made these remarks on Tuesday during an Independence Day webinar organized by the Civil Society for Ethics and Values Development Initiative (CSEVDI), themed “Community Engagement for Ethical Transformation, Leadership, and Integrity.” Represented by his Senior Special Assistant on Legal and Compliance Matters, Bashir Maidugu, Shettima articulated that ethics and morals are crucial, likening a nation’s moral state to decaying teeth: “The more decayed they are, the more it hurts to touch them.”

He stated, “The Renewed Hope Agenda of the current government cannot serve as an effective transformative policy without genuine ethical transformation, authentic leadership, and steadfast integrity at all levels. Nigeria urgently requires a reorientation and repositioning concerning the values its citizens should cherish to achieve its potential.”

Tajudeen Toyin-Oke, Secretary-General of the Civil Society Initiative, noted that the organization is dedicated to promoting ethical compliance in Nigeria to help restore the country to its former glory.
