Suspected Boko Haram insurgents reportedly destroyed at least 25 newly constructed buildings intended for returnees in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State. Dikwa residents fled their homes, seeking refuge as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) due to the insurgency.
The attackers targeted a remote village in Gajibo, burning the houses after abducting IDPs who had gone into the forest to fetch firewood. Gajibo is approximately 110 kilometers away from Maiduguri, the state capital. Eyewitnesses, including Modu Kundiri and resident Sheriff Lawan, confirmed the incident, with Lawan mentioning the planting of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the construction site by insurgents to disrupt rebuilding and resettlement efforts.
