In an Abakaliki Magistrates’ Court hearing on Wednesday, Anthony Odeh and Amadi Chibuike were ordered into custody at a correctional facility on charges of allegedly causing the death of a police corporal.
The accused, Odeh (40) and Chibuike (34), are confronted with a two-count indictment of murder and conspiracy.
During the proceedings, Prosecutor Insp Bassey Okon apprised the court that the defendants had committed the offenses on February 10 in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi, colluding with others currently evading capture. Their alleged victim was Police Corporal Emeka Kelvin, identified by force number F/No 518032.
Okon asserted that the charges against Odeh and Chibuike fell under the purview of section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code cap.33, vol. 1 laws of Ebonyi State, Nigeria.
The defendants did not enter a plea.
Representing the accused, Mr. C. O Okpere implored the court to grant bail to his clients. However, the prosecutor objected to the bail application, advocating for the defendants’ confinement in a correctional center.
Magistrate Ojemba Isu-Oko dismissed the bail plea and ordered the remand of Odeh and Chibuike in a correctional facility. Furthermore, he directed that the case file and all relevant exhibits be transmitted to the Department of Public Prosecution for legal counsel.
