Borno Flood Relief Fund Reaches N17 Billion As Obasanjo Expresses Solidarity

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo expressed his condolences to the people and government of Borno State on Wednesday following the severe flooding that hit Maiduguri last week, causing at least 30 deaths and displacing over a million people……CONTINUE READING 

Obasanjo praised the state government’s quick and effective response to the disaster, noting the extensive damage to lives, property, and agriculture. In a message to Governor Babagana Zulum, Obasanjo highlighted the tragedy as one of the most devastating in recent times and commended the leadership shown in managing the crisis.

The Borno State government has received over N17 billion in donations from various sources to aid flood victims. This includes N3 billion from the Federal Government and $6 million (approximately N10 billion) from the United Nations.

Additional contributions include N1 billion from Aliko Dangote, N1.5 billion from Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, and N100 million from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. The Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, donated N5 million, and the House of Representatives and Senate collectively donated N174 million. Local stakeholders and members of the National Assembly also contributed a total of N552 million.

Governors from neighboring states Yobe and Bauchi have also made significant donations of N100 million and N250 million, respectively.

Governor Zulum has committed to using the funds responsibly to support flood victims and facilitate their recovery, while continuing to seek further assistance from citizens, organizations, and international partners.
