Brace Up! Nationwide Thunderstorms And Possible Flooding Ahead – NIMET Alerts Nigerians
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert, warning that several states may experience thunderstorms and flooding on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The advisory, released in the agency’s daily weather outlook on Monday evening, forecasts thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall in parts of Borno, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Yobe, Adamawa, and Taraba States during the morning hours.
By afternoon and evening, similar weather conditions are expected in parts of Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Borno, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, Taraba, and Adamawa. NiMet also noted a high flood risk in Adamawa and Taraba due to persistent rainfall.
In the central region, light morning showers are anticipated in Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Niger States. Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rain are predicted for the FCT, Plateau, Niger, Nasarawa, Benue, Kwara, and Kogi, with a high risk of flooding in Benue.
For the southern states, the morning will bring cloudy skies and light rain in parts of Imo, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Delta, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom. By afternoon and evening, moderate rainfall is expected across the entire region.
NiMet advised residents, especially those in flood-prone areas, to take safety precautions. It also urged local authorities, emergency responders, and other stakeholders to stay on high alert.
