BREAKING: 57 Top Lawyers Elevated To SAN Status — Full List Revealed By LPPC

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has approved the elevation of 57 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

This decision was made at the conclusion of the LPPC’s 169th plenary session held in Abuja on Thursday. The meeting was presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun.

Out of the 57 successful applicants, 56 were selected under the advocates category, while one was chosen from the academia category—Professor Chima Josephat Ubanyionwu.

Only two female lawyers made the final list this year:

• Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, Chairperson of the 2024 NBA Annual General Conference Planning Committee

• Mrs. Chinyere Ekene Moneme

The development was confirmed in a statement issued to journalists in Abuja by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Eniola Akanbi, who also serves as Secretary of the LPPC.

According to the statement,

“The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is conferred as a mark of professional excellence on legal practitioners who have shown outstanding merit in advocacy or academic contributions to legal scholarship.”

During the session, three petitions filed against certain applicants were reviewed but found to be unsubstantiated and subsequently dismissed.

In line with directives from the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), all shortlisted candidates must attend and complete the mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme.

The formal swearing-in ceremony for the new Senior Advocates will take place on Monday, September 29, 2025, and will be conducted by the CJN.
