BREAKING: Adeleke Raises Alarm After Voting, Demands Immediate Removal Of Osun Police Commissioner
Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for the removal of Samuel Erale Etaifo, the Commissioner of Police deployed to oversee the 2026 governorship election in the state.
Adeleke made the demand on Saturday shortly after casting his ballot at Ward 9, Sagba Abogunde Polling Unit in Ede.
The governor also alleged that some of his supporters were being intimidated in Modakeke and urged the Inspector General of Police and other security agencies to closely monitor the conduct of security personnel during the election.
Speaking to journalists after voting, Adeleke alleged that a police officer identified as “London” had been brought from Port Harcourt to disrupt the electoral process.
He said he had received information from his supporters about the alleged activities of the officer and called on security authorities to remain vigilant.
Adeleke further alleged that the officer was brought into Osun by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to interfere with the election, particularly in Ede, his hometown.
The governor also expressed concern over the alleged plan to bypass the established collation process, insisting that results must be collated through the appropriate stages, from polling units to wards and local government areas.
He urged voters and his supporters to remain alert while expressing confidence that he would emerge victorious in the election.
Despite his concerns, Adeleke commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for commencing the accreditation process early and appealed to the commission to ensure that the election remained free, fair and credible.
The governor arrived at his polling unit at about 8:30 a.m., completed the accreditation process and cast his ballot. He was reportedly the first voter to vote at the polling unit.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force has clarified that Ibrahim Gotan remains the Commissioner of Police in Osun State.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, explained that Samuel Erale Etaifo was deployed specifically to Osun as the Commissioner of Police responsible for overseeing the August 15 governorship election.
According to the police, Gotan remains in charge of the Osun State Command and will continue to supervise routine policing operations, while also providing administrative and operational support to the election CP.
The clarification followed reports suggesting that Gotan had been redeployed from the Osun State Command to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on special duty.
