The students were taken during a night attack that sparked nationwide outrage and renewed concerns over school security in the North-West.

According to reports, the assailants stormed the school at approximately 5:52 a.m., opening sporadic fire as students prepared for the day’s activities. The gunmen overpowered the school’s security, abducting several girls before fleeing into nearby bushes.

The Kebbi State Police Command also verified the attack, which left the Vice Principal dead and saw 25 students kidnapped in the early hours of Monday. Police Public Relations Officer CSP Nafiu Abubakar confirmed that the armed men breached the school’s perimeter before carrying out the attack.

Following the incident, President Bola Tinubu directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to convey the federal government’s condolences to the state government. The President expressed deep sadness over the abduction and assured parents, guardians, and the state government that efforts would be made to secure the girls’ swift release.
