President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved key new appointments across the education sector, including the naming of Prof. Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO), while also retaining Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as the agency’s Registrar.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to a statement on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President also announced leadership changes and renewals in agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education, including the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.

As part of the appointments, Dr. Bongfa Binfa has been named Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, succeeding Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026. His appointment is for a single five-year term following a competitive selection process advertised in national newspapers in September 2025.

The President also approved the appointment of Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the NBTE, while reappointing Prof. Idris M. Bugaje as Executive Secretary for a final five-year term.

Prof. Adelabu, the new NECO Board Chairman, is a retired Professor of Educational Administration at Obafemi Awolowo University. She previously served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State between 2013 and 2014 and also chaired the NBTE from 2018 to 2021.

Prof. Salako, the newly appointed NBTE Chairman, is described as a renowned researcher with extensive experience in higher education leadership and national policy development. He previously served as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) from 2016 to 2024, during which the institution underwent significant reforms and expansion.

Dr. Binfa holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and previously served as Deputy Rector (Academic) at the Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny, as well as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah.

In addition, President Tinubu renewed the tenure of Prof. Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria for another five years. Since her appointment in 2021, she has overseen major reforms aimed at modernising the institution, including the development of digital knowledge systems and the advancement of the National Library Headquarters project in Abuja.

The Presidency stated that the renewal is expected to ensure continuity in ongoing reforms, completion of the headquarters project, and implementation of the 2025–2030 strategic plan for the institution.
