The group said the regulator’s recent actions helped ease tensions in the aviation industry and prevented a possible disruption to flight operations across the country.

In a statement released on Tuesday, CEMIS noted that the NMDPRA’s clarification on Jet A1 fuel availability and pricing came at a time of growing uncertainty that had raised concerns among airline operators.

The statement, signed by the Executive Director of the centre, Tunde Adeyemi, highlighted the regulator’s confirmation of over 70 days’ sufficiency in aviation fuel supply, describing it as evidence of a strong and stable market position.

Adeyemi said the data-driven communication from the authority helped dispel rumours about an imminent increase in aviation fuel prices.

According to him, “The timely intervention by the Authority provided much-needed clarity and helped to calm tensions within the aviation ecosystem.”

He added that the decision to rely on transparency and factual information was commendable, especially at a time when misinformation could have triggered a crisis.

The group also stressed that aviation fuel is a major cost component for airlines, making price stability crucial for the sector’s sustainability.

Adeyemi explained that the deregulated nature of the Jet A1 market means prices are shaped by global crude oil trends, exchange rate movements, and logistics costs, rather than arbitrary decisions.

He noted that the regulator’s role in providing accurate market information helps industry stakeholders make informed decisions.

CEMIS further pointed to the growing impact of local refining, stating that domestically refined aviation fuel being sold slightly below international benchmarks is a positive sign of improved local capacity and reduced dependence on external supply shocks.

The organisation urged stakeholders to avoid spreading unverified information that could destabilise the market, warning that panic-driven narratives could reverse recent gains.

It also called on the Federal Government to continue strengthening regulatory institutions, saying consistent oversight and policy direction are essential for long-term stability in both the energy and aviation sectors.

CEMIS concluded that the NMDPRA’s intervention highlights the importance of effective regulation in maintaining economic stability and public confidence in critical industries.
