Breaking: Court Denies Request To Lift Arrest Warrant For Yahaya Bello

In a recent development, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has rejected the plea of former Kogi State governor Yahaya Bello to revoke the arrest warrant issued against him by the court.

The judge pointed out that Bello’s persistent avoidance of the court’s summons for arraignment in a criminal case amounted to contempt of court, thus disqualifying him from seeking any leniency.

During the ruling on Bello’s application to nullify the arrest warrant, the court emphasized that Bello’s actions showed a lack of respect for the judicial process, as he attempted to dictate terms from the comfort of his own residence.

Furthermore, the court dismissed Bello’s argument challenging the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court to preside over the criminal charges against him. Justice Nwite clarified that Bello must first appear for arraignment and have his plea recorded before making any legal motions.

Bello had previously argued that the arrest warrant was unnecessary since his legal counsel, Abdulwahab Mohammed, had accepted the service of the criminal charges on his behalf. However, the court deemed this argument insufficient to annul the warrant.

The court’s decision underscores the principle that no individual, regardless of their former status, is above the law. Yahaya Bello is required to comply with legal procedures and face the charges against him in court.
