Breaking: Court Grants Bail To Ex-Central Bank Governor Emefiele

An Ikeja Special Offences Court has granted bail to the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, setting it at 50 million naira. This decision comes as Emefiele faces a 26-count charge related to alleged abuse of office and fraud involving $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion, as reported by Naija News.

Justice Rahman Oshodi, in his ruling on Friday, approved Emefiele’s bail with two sureties each posting the same amount. These sureties are required to be employed and to have a track record of three years of tax compliance with the Lagos State Government. Additionally, they must provide proper identification and be registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.

The Nation reports that Justice Oshodi found the previously set bail conditions of N1 million acceptable for Emefiele’s co-defendant, Henry Isioma-Omoil, who faces a separate charge before Justice Olufunke Sule-Hamzat of Yaba High Court. However, Oshodi mandated that the bail documents be transferred to a special offences court and registered in the Lagos State Bail Management System.
