Breaking: Fubara And Wike Open Dialogue To End Bitter Feud Shaking Rivers State

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have commenced peace talks to end their prolonged political conflict.

According to Naija News, the reconciliation meeting took place at Wike’s Abuja residence and was brokered by former Ogun State Governor Olusegun Osoba and incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun.

This marks the first meaningful effort to bridge the divide that has destabilized Rivers State’s political climate.

Sources told Punch that during the meeting, Governor Fubara expressed deep remorse for his past actions. One insider, who asked not to be named, disclosed that Fubara—accompanied by the Ogun leaders—“prostrated and pleaded with the FCT Minister for forgiveness.”

Further peace meetings are planned, with both parties expected to meet again soon to solidify the reconciliation process.

The feud between Fubara and Wike has fueled political turmoil in Rivers State for nearly two years, prompting President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency on March 18, 2025. Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd.) was subsequently appointed as sole administrator of the state.

Despite intense public criticism, the National Assembly ratified the emergency declaration on March 20. In protest, 11 PDP governors filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court, questioning the constitutionality of the move.

Meanwhile, PDP Deputy National Youth Leader Timothy Osadolor, speaking to Punch, urged Fubara to prioritize the interests of Rivers people over political compromise. He acknowledged the necessity of the peace talks but emphasized that the state’s integrity must not be sacrificed.
