Breaking: IGP Egbetokun Makes History, Appoints CP Nkechi Eze As Nigeria Police Force’s First-Ever Director Of Medical Services

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of AIG Nkechi Eze as the Pioneer Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the appointment underscores the IGP’s commitment to ongoing police reforms and the enhancement of personnel welfare.

The announcement follows the recent elevation of the Force Medical Section into a full-fledged Directorate — a landmark development aimed at institutionalizing comprehensive, accessible, and efficient healthcare services across the Nigeria Police Force.

According to the statement, “AIG Nkechi Eze is a distinguished clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator who brings over 27 years of exceptional service and leadership to her new role.”

Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and a native of Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) and a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.

Her illustrious career has spanned various police formations in Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and Lagos, where she made notable contributions to improving police healthcare delivery and officers’ welfare.

While congratulating AIG Eze on her historic appointment, IGP Egbetokun urged her to deploy her wealth of experience and administrative expertise to reposition the new Directorate as a model of excellence in law enforcement healthcare services.

He emphasized that the creation of the Directorate represents a strategic investment in the health, morale, and productivity of police officers, reaffirming that the well-being of personnel remains central to the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
