Breaking: John Mahama Takes Oath As Ghana’s President In Historic Ceremony

John Mahama was sworn in as Ghana’s new president on Tuesday during a ceremony attended by world leaders.

The 66-year-old former president returned to office eight years after his previous tenure, following a decisive victory in the December elections. Mahama secured 56.6% of the vote, a significant margin in a country where elections are often closely contested.

His victory was fueled by voter dissatisfaction over economic hardships, worsened by Ghana’s 2022 sovereign-debt default.

Among the dignitaries present at the inauguration was Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In addition, several governors from Nigeria’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) paid a courtesy visit to Mahama before the swearing-in ceremony.

The delegation included Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, and Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

Governor Oborevwori shared on social media that the visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations between Ghana and their respective states, further solidifying ties between Nigeria and Ghana.

“It was a privilege to visit President-elect Mahama alongside my fellow governors. This visit will enhance bilateral relations between our states and strengthen the bond between Nigeria and Ghana,” he said.

Governor Fintiri described the visit as a show of solidarity with Mahama as he embarks on a new chapter of leadership for Ghana.
