Otesile was reportedly kidnapped on Thursday evening in front of her residence in the General Gas area of Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Adewale Osifeso, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. “She was kidnapped on Thursday night. Investigation is ongoing,” Osifeso said.
Ibukun Otesile, a mother of two, is the daughter of Olalekan Babatunde, founder and General Overseer of Jesus Is King Ministries in Ibadan.
News of her abduction quickly spread across social media on Friday, generating widespread concern.
Olamide Olanrewaju, Personal Assistant to Apostle Joshua Sola Akinyemiju, the outgoing Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Oyo State, confirmed the development to journalists and provided details of the alert. According to him, the association received word of the kidnapping at around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday.
“We all have a WhatsApp group that her father is also part of. The CAN chairman posted a distress call, informing us that the daughter of Reverend (Dr.) Lekan Babatunde had been kidnapped,” Olanrewaju said.
“Everyone in the group was concerned and immediately prayed. While prayer is important, we also needed to take appropriate action.”
Olanrewaju added that he tagged Rev. Moses, the Chaplain of the Police Force Headquarters in Oyo State, in the group to circulate the alert.
“I was informed that she was kidnapped at the gate of her home in General Gas. Only God knows the circumstances at that moment—what she was doing there, where she was taken, and who was involved,” he said.
The official CAN alert read: “The daughter of our beloved Reverend Dr. Lekan Babatunde was kidnapped tonight, Thursday, December 4, around 8:00 p.m. Ibukun Otesile, a mother of two, was abducted in front of her gate at General Gas, Akobo.”
In response to the incident, the Christian Association of Nigeria called on the Nigerian Army Headquarters and the Nigeria Police Force to deploy all necessary resources to ensure Otesile’s safe and immediate release.
