Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has called on the staff of the Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) to step up their efforts in enhancing the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state. Expressing dissatisfaction with the current low revenue profile of the state, Governor Alia, represented by the Commissioner for Finance, Hon Mike Oglegba, urged the management of the agency to take urgent steps to enhance the state’s IGR.
The Acting Executive Chairman of BIRS, Mr Emmanuel Agema, in his welcome remarks, highlighted the agency’s determination to formulate policies and programs that leverage the political will of the present administration to improve the revenue situation. Agema emphasized the significance of the retreat for the agency’s staff, noting their pivotal role in the state’s development.
He charged participants to contribute their best efforts to complement the government’s initiatives aimed at advancing the state. CITN Chairman, Makurdi District, Sunday Odagba, expressed appreciation for the collaboration with BIRS and pledged continued support to the agency. He commended the retreat as a positive step in the right direction.
