The discussions are being held in the Conference Hall of the Federal Ministry of Education, following a recent warning from ASUU about a possible strike due to the government’s alleged failure to meet its obligations.

ASUU, under the leadership of its President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has voiced deep concerns over unmet promises, which reportedly involve critical issues such as funding, staff welfare, and the implementation of previous agreements.

Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, had earlier assured the public of the government’s willingness to engage constructively with ASUU. However, a previously scheduled meeting last Monday was unexpectedly postponed without any explanation.

Joining the discussions are senior officials from the Federal Ministry of Education and several former ASUU presidents, including the immediate past president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi.

The outcome of these negotiations is crucial, as it will determine whether Nigeria’s public universities will experience another round of disruptive strikes. Both sides are under significant pressure to reach a resolution that ensures the uninterrupted continuation of academic activities across the country.
