In the withdrawal letter, Imasuen explained that he decided to step back from the primaries because the party leadership had chosen to allocate the governorship ticket to the Central Senatorial District. Expressing gratitude for the steadfast support received throughout his campaign, he acknowledged the party’s decision and expressed his readiness to align with it.

Imasuen stated in the letter, “I have come to the conclusion that since members of our National Working Committee, in their wisdom, have expressed their preference for zoning the governorship position to Edo Central Senatorial District, it is wise to align with the decision of the party. I am immensely grateful for your unwavering support and belief in me, throughout this journey. Your dedication and passion have been the driving force behind my campaign.”

While acknowledging the weight of his decision, Imasuen reassured his supporters of his commitment to the party, expressing readiness to support the candidate who emerges from the primary election.

This development comes on the heels of another withdrawal from the race, as Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a prominent contender, announced his decision yesterday. In a withdrawal letter addressed to the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, and copied to the acting state chairman of the party, Jarrett Tenebe, Ize-Iyamu described the decision as a painful one. His unexpected exit from the race has added further intrigue to the unfolding dynamics of the APC governorship primary election in Edo State.
