The decision was announced in a press release issued on Wednesday by Musa Krishi, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker. The withdrawal follows extensive consultations with various stakeholders and a thorough evaluation of the nation’s current situation.
The statement read, “In light of the concerns and feedback from the public, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has chosen to withdraw the Counter Subversion Bill and any associated legislation.
“This decision underscores his dedication to ensuring that the House of Representatives continues to be a genuine reflection of the people’s will.”
Krishi emphasized that the withdrawal of the bill highlights Speaker Abbas’ unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation’s peace and unity.
“Speaker Abbas Tajudeen, known for his strong advocacy for the people’s interests, has always prioritized listening to the concerns of citizens and promoting national harmony. His decision is a testament to his commitment to keeping the House truly representative of the people.
“He recognizes the importance of the concerns raised and the attention the Bill has received, reaffirming his stance against supporting any legislation that could jeopardize the nation’s peace and unity.
“The public is hereby informed of the withdrawal of the Counter Subversion Bill, along with any related legislation introduced on July 23, 2024,” Krishi added.
