According to multiple accounts and video evidence, Charity, originally from Inyi but married in Igboariam, had been residing in her family home with her children for several years. Tragically, her son, allegedly involved in illicit drug trade, had ongoing conflicts with her. The roots of the issue can be traced back to a recent altercation between the suspect and his younger brother.
Community leader Mr. Ben Obi disclosed that the tension escalated when the suspect attempted to harm his younger brother. The mother intervened, reporting the incident to the local authorities, seeking their assistance to expel him from the house due to his violent tendencies. It is noted that the younger sister had been missing for two weeks before the confrontation with the mother.
In a shocking turn of events, after the mother returned from a condolence visit to Akpugoeze, Somadina allegedly murdered her and buried her in a shallow grave in their backyard. The younger brother, upon returning and realizing his mother was missing, raised an alarm. Upon investigation by the villagers, Somadina confessed to killing both his mother and sister.
Community leader Barrister Ben stated that the Police were promptly summoned, and the remains of the victims were exhumed and deposited at the mortuary. The suspect is now in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings. It was revealed that Charity, until her demise, earned a living by selling fufu to support her family. Barrister Ben urged government intervention to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Echoing the concern, the coordinating president general in Oji River, Mr. Ejike Tasie, highlighted the alarming prevalence of hard drug use in the Inyi Community. He called on the anti-drug agency in Oji River to address the issue and curb drug abuse in local communities.
The Enugu State Police Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident and assured that the investigation is ongoing. Once concluded, the suspect will be prosecuted in court.
