Charity Orji, originally from Inyi but married in Igbariam, had been residing in her family home with her children for several years, according to local sources. The suspect, who was known to be involved in illicit drug activities, had reportedly been in a dispute with his mother for some time. Tragically, the younger sister had been missing for two weeks prior to the incident.
Community leader Ben Obi explained that the conflict escalated when the suspect had a disagreement with his younger brother weeks before the murder. The mother had intervened and sought the assistance of the community leaders to resolve the issue. However, upon her return from a condolence visit to Akpugoeze, the son allegedly murdered her in the afternoon and buried her in the backyard.
When the younger brother returned and raised an alarm, the villagers interrogated Somadina, who confessed to killing both his mother and sister. The police were summoned, and the remains of the victims were exhumed and placed in the mortuary. The suspect was subsequently apprehended.
Ejike Tasie, the coordinating president general in Oji River, expressed concern about the prevalence of drug abuse in the Inyi community. He urged the anti-drug agency to collaborate with the community to address the issue. The Enugu State Police Command spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, stating that the investigation was ongoing.
