Breaking News: NANS Urges Federal Government To Reject N750 Per Litre Fuel Proposal
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly urged the federal government to reject the proposed increase in the price of petrol to N750 per litre, especially as suggested by international agencies such as the World Bank. In a statement released by Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, the Clerk of the Senate, NANS emphasized that endorsing such a price hike would lead to severe consequences for the country.
NANS cautioned the Federal Government against heeding the advice of the World Bank and other proponents of the proposed fuel price increment. Uthman highlighted that previous fuel price hikes earlier in the year had already negatively impacted many Nigerian students, and any further increase could potentially result in societal unrest.
The statement underscored the adverse effects of recent fuel price increments, which have made it increasingly difficult for the general populace to sustain their livelihoods. This has led to business closures and a significant surge in school fees, affecting the welfare of the masses and posing a direct threat to education accessibility and the overall economic stability of the nation.
As representatives of Nigerian students both domestically and abroad, NANS expressed deep concern for the welfare of the masses, particularly the student community that plays a crucial role in the nation’s future. The student body appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene and prevent the proposed fuel increment, citing the potential for chaos and the detrimental impact on citizens’ well-being.
NANS implored the President to consider the appeal, leveraging his esteemed office to ensure the welfare of the citizens and prevent potential upheavals. The student body expressed hope that President Buhari would promptly prioritize the interests of the Nigerian people, safeguarding the stability and prosperity of the nation.
