BREAKING NEWS: National Grid Faces Another Collapse, Causing Widespread OutagesThe national electricity grid has collapsed again, plunging many Nigerians into darkness. Reports indicate that the grid failure occurred around 6:18 PM on Monday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Punch, power generation saw a significant drop, falling from 3.87 gigawatts at 5 PM to 3.56 GW by 6 PM, and then to zero by 7 PM and 8 PM. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) confirmed the collapse in a statement released on Monday evening.
The EEDC informed customers of a “general system collapse” that happened at 6:48 PM on October 14, 2024, resulting in widespread power loss across their network. They stated, “Consequently, all our interface TCN stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.”
The statement, signed by Head of Corporate Communications Emeka Ezeh, mentioned that the EEDC is awaiting further details on the collapse and restoration efforts from the National Control Centre (NCC) in Osogbo.
Similarly, Abuja Disco reported, “Dear Valued Customer, please be informed that the power outage being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 6:58 PM today, affecting the power supply to our franchise areas. Rest assured, we are collaborating with relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid stabilizes. Thank you for your understanding.
