Breaking News: NSITF Allocates N6.6 Billion To Support 103,000 Social Security Beneficiaries
The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has disbursed a minimum of N6.6 billion to cater to the needs of 103,000 beneficiaries, covering claims and compensation. Among the recipients, 111 individuals were provided with artificial limbs, and an additional 11 were sponsored for overseas medical treatment. NSITF highlighted a growing participation in its Employee’s Compensation Scheme (ECS), with 145,000 employers and 7.4 million employees now enrolled.
The announcement coincided with NSITF’s celebration of winning the 2023 Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association’s (NECA) Award in the Best Service Delivery category. In response to this recognition, Maureen Allagoa, the Managing Director of NSITF, expressed gratitude and emphasized the award’s motivational impact on the agency.
Allagoa affirmed NSITF’s unwavering commitment to expanding social security coverage for all Nigerian workers. She stated, “The NECA award is simply a testimony to all we have been doing lately. It is a mirror on our stoic commitment to service delivery, geared towards the enhancement of the welfare and social security of workers.”
Represented by Prof. Gabriel Okenwa, NSITF’s Executive Director of Administration, Allagoa outlined the agency’s strategic measures and commitment to addressing challenges. She stressed the goal of extending ECS benefits to the informal sector, aiming to include traders, mechanics, hairdressers, market vendors, carpenters, and others.
Allagoa detailed NSITF’s efforts to align with the Eight Point Agenda of the Tinubu Administration on Poverty Reduction and highlighted plans to explore areas of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention 102. This includes provisions for old age, unemployment, family benefits, and more.
The Managing Director emphasized the Fund’s commitment to continuous improvement, citing innovations such as a monthly online Management Performance Review and operational enhancements that have led to an improved interface among the fund’s staff.
In conclusion, Allagoa reiterated NSITF’s dedication to maintaining the standard set in service delivery, citing the NECA award as a catalyst for breaking new ground in social security. She emphasized the agency’s focus on responsiveness to the evolving needs of workers and expressed determination to expand the reach of social security benefits.
