Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged both local and international investors to collaborate with Micro-, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to expand their products and services, enabling them to penetrate the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the global market. The governor emphasized that such partnerships would yield significant returns on investment for small businesses in Lagos and Nigeria.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 8th Lagos MSMEs Exclusive Trade Fair, held at the Y-Arena on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, with the theme “Empowering MSMEs for AfCTA Excellence Through Sustainable Economic Growth,” Governor Sanwo-Olu highlighted the fair as a platform to promote entrepreneurs’ products and services in the state without any cost.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade, and Investment, Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, underscored the importance of the MSME sector as a catalyst for a robust economy. He expressed the state’s commitment to continue promoting a diverse range of products and services manufactured in Lagos through the MSME sector.
“MSMEs remain a major factor in creating employment and wealth, generating income, improving the standard of living, and enabling investment opportunities for profit. Your developmental role is not only significant but highly commendable. This is why I must draw the attention of investors to take advantage of the opportunities in this sector to grow the economy of the state,” Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized.
He acknowledged the constructive networking and fruitful deliberations that took place during the fair, including business clinics facilitated by key stakeholders. The governor assured that the feedback received from the fair would guide the state government in planning future events and enhancing service delivery, contributing to the transformation of Lagos into a 21st-century economy.
