Breaking News: Tinubu And Stakeholders Successfully Mediate Resolution To Rivers Crisis In Recent Development

Critical stakeholders in the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State have reached an agreement to address the prolonged conflict. As outlined in the resolution signed on Monday night, President Tinubu instructed the immediate withdrawal of all legal proceedings initiated by the governor and his team pertaining to the political crisis. Additionally, any ongoing impeachment proceedings initiated by the state House of Assembly against the governor were mandated to be dropped without delay.

The signatories to the resolution included Governor Fubara, Governor Wike, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Speaker of the Rivers State Assembly Martin Amaewhule, PDP Chairman for Rivers State Aaron Chukwuemeka, and APC Chairman for Rivers State Tony Okocha.

The resolution emphasized the recognition of the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, along with the 27 members who resigned from the PDP. It further stipulated the immediate reinstatement of remunerations and benefits for all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff. The resolution also prohibited the interference of the Governor of Rivers State in the full funding of the House of Assembly.

Addressing the state of the Rivers State House of Assembly building, Tinubu directed that lawmakers should have the freedom to choose where they conduct their legislative business without interference from the Executive arm of government. Additionally, Governor Fubara was instructed to present the 2024 Appropriation Bill to a properly constituted Rivers State House of Assembly.

President Tinubu mandated the resubmission of the names of all commissioners who resigned due to the political crisis for approval by the House of Assembly. He explicitly declared the dissolution of the Local Government administration as “null and void” and rejected the formation of a caretaker committee for local governments in Rivers State.
