Breaking: Nigeria To Host 2026 CAF Awards And Congress After Tinubu’s Approval

The CAF Congress is scheduled to hold in October and is expected to gather some of the most influential stakeholders in African football. Participants will include presidents of CAF’s 54 member associations, representatives of the six zonal unions, and senior football administrators across the continent.

The development was announced on May 12 during the ongoing Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, following a meeting between President Tinubu and CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe.

Also in attendance were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Ibrahim Musa Gusau, Special Adviser to the CAF President Amaju Melvin Pinnick, and CAF Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.

Securing hosting rights for both events is being viewed as a significant milestone for Nigeria, strengthening its influence within African football governance.

The CAF Ordinary General Assembly serves as the organisation’s highest decision-making body, where key policies, development strategies, and long-term plans for African football are deliberated and adopted.

In addition to the congress, Nigeria will also host the CAF Awards, one of the continent’s most prestigious football ceremonies, which honours outstanding players, coaches, and teams across Africa each year.
